How to Create Viral Instagram Reels

Reels are one of Instagram’s newest and favourtie features, which means if you’re trying to reach a wider audience, you need to be creating reels! Below are all of the tips & tricks you need when creating reels.

What Type of Reels Do I Make?

1. Re-create trends, but with your own spin

2. Create reels that align with your niche

3. Be creative!

Where to Edit Reels

via Intagram Reels section

Editing your reels directly in the Instagram app can make things really simple, but it does have some downfalls.

Pros:

  • Makes its easy to sync audio

  • The “align” feature – shows you the last clip so you can perfectly align your next clips, great for transitions!

  • In app effects/filters

Cons:

  • Instagram app is known to crash and have glitches when editing reels, so be careful!

  • Not as many features as external editing apps

via External App (InShot, CapCut, or Adobe Premiere Rush)

This is my preferred editing method, especially when I have some more time to edit. I find the quality of my reels are better when editing externally.

Pros:

  • Additional editing features

  • Easy to go back and make additional edits once drafted

  • More reliable (not as likely to have glitches)

Cons:

  • Takes additional time

  • Difficult to add trending sounds

Tips to Get Your Reels Trending

Finished creating your reel? Now it’s time to make sure it gets on as many feeds as possible!

1. Use trending sounds

When you click on “audio” there will be “for you” audio, those are trending sounds that you should use!

2. Use hashtags that fit your niche

Are you a bookstagrammer? Then use hashtags that will land your reel on fellow bookstagrammers pages.

Some that I regularly use are: #bookishreel #bookishreel #bookstagramreel #bookstagramreels #bookreel

3. Use key words in the caption

If your reel is about thriller books, then be sure to include words around that in your caption!

4. Share to your main feed

Before posting your reel you can choose to “also share to feed” make sure to do this!
